Denton ISD Theatre Arts Workshop

January 3, 2018

The Texas Fashion Collection (TFC) Director, Annette Becker, along with Onstead Executive Director, Peter Hyland, welcomed Denton ISD Theatre Arts Faculty to the University of North Texas Denton campus for a private tour and professional development workshop exploring dress from the past 175 years, with a focus on both historical fashion and its social and physical contexts. Through examples from the TFC’s permanent holdings, participants examined a series of ensembles and related materials to consider ways that clothing relates to kinesthetic, technological, and aesthetic elements of the designed world, all of which inform popular understandings of history that are often incorporated into stage and film.

The TFC is a unique repository that collects and documents nearly 20,000 examples of historic dress and high fashion from the last two centuries through the present. The Texas Fashion Collection was created by a variety of notable groups and individuals—including Stanley and Edward Marcus of Neiman Marcus—whose vision and style continue to inspire students, researchers, and visitors.
