2016-2017 Fellow

Brittany Taylor

Brittany Taylor was selected as the inaugural 2016/17 Onstead Institute / Crow Collection Fellow in Museum Education. One project that Taylor worked on during her fellowship was the Crow 360 Pilot Program, a collaborative, museum-to-school project between the Crow Collection of Asian Art, the Onstead Institute, and the xREZ Art + Science Lab. The goal was to create a museum experience in the classroom using 360° photography, virtual reality headsets and laptops to view a work of art in the gallery and the city where it came from. The target audiences for the program are public schools that are unable to physically come to the museum due to distance, cost or time constraints. For the pilot program, Denton ISD was chosen and several middle school classes participated. A subsequent article, Crow 360: Including Rural Schools in the Museum Experience, written by Carolyn Armbruster, Anne Kindseth, and Taylor, was published in The International Journal of the Inclusive Museum. Taylor graduated from UNT with a Masters degree in Art Education in May 2017.

“During my experience at the University of North Texas, I have worked as a graduate research assistant at the xREZ Art + Science Lab, worked as an art educator at Big Thought’s summer camp in Dallas, interned at the Greater Denton Arts Council and worked as a teaching assistant for the Art History Art Education department," Taylor said. "In these last two years, I have used each position to serve their communities and collaborate with other organizations to the best of my abilities. I have been fortunate enough to be the first Onstead Institute / Crow Collection of Asian Art Fellow, a position that has provided education, experience and financial security while I finish my degree. I have gained many great mentors through this program and am grateful for the position. Throughout this experience, I have been encouraged to pursue independent projects yet supported enough to never feel lost. The fellows that follow after me will have amazing people to guide and support their journey in art education and I am excited to see what comes next.”

Update: UNT CVAD alumna Brittany Taylor has a passion for connecting kids to art through learning experiences. Through her work at xREZ, the Crow Collection of Asian Art and the Onstead Institute, Brittany developed the Crow 360° Pilot Program. Her goal was to create learning experience for K-12 students that brought the museum to them as a 360 video for smartphones.

She continues to pursue her passion for innovating art education as an adjunct professor of art for North Central Texas College, Gainesville, Texas. Before joining NCTC, Brittany applied and developed her skills as an art theory and history educator through Responsive Education Solutions for students in middle and high school. She continues to grow her skills as a passionate educator in the field of art education.
