Education as Experimentation: Possibilities Beyond Outcome-Based Learning

June 17-18, 2017
A unique symposium for creative thinkers and educators

The Onstead Institute hosted the symposium Education as Experimentation, bringing together a unique gathering of creative thinkers, educators, artists, designers, philosophers, teachers and art professionals. The roster of distinguished session leaders included scholars from New York, Helsinki, Leuven, and London. Attendees from school districts, universities, museums and organizations from the DFW area and beyond participated in nine sessions that explored non-traditional ways of conceptualizing and enacting education. Through hands-on activities, collaborative art-making, and phenomenological investigations of educational experiences, participants made thoughtful discoveries about their roles as teachers, their students, and the frameworks in which education takes place.

The symposium was documented by a creative team of videographers, photographers, and scholars. An introductory video as well as videos of several sessions were produced and can be viewed on Vimeo. Event photos can be viewed in the gallery below.
