2019 Fellow

Athena Buxton was selected as the inaugural 2019 Onstead Institute / Amon Carter Museum Fellow in Museum Education. Buxton is a second year graduate student in Art History and Museum Education at the University of North Texas and has previously interned with the Greater Denton Arts Council and the Houston Museum of African American Culture. These experiences, coupled with the daily trips to museums Buxton took during her childhood, have contributed to her passion for the visual arts and working with young children. During her fellowship at the Amon Carter Museum of American Art, she will assist with K-12 community outreach and tours, K-12 educator workshops, and education program evaluation.

Update: After her December 2019 graduation, Athena was selected as the new education coordinator at the Hunter Museum of American Art in Chattanooga, Tenn. The museum's collections include works representing the Hudson River School, 19th century genre painting, American Impressionism, the Ashcan School, early modernism, regionalism, and post World War II modern and contemporary art.
